January 23 Show: Stories of Substance
aka "Drugs are Nice"
We’re kicking off the 2026 season of In a Nutshell with a show we’ve been excited about for a long time.
Stories of Substance (also known around here as Drugs Are Nice) is an evening of true, personal storytelling about moments when drugs didn’t lead to disaster. Instead, something cracked open, shifted, connected, or even changed for the better.
Most public stories about drugs end in shame, regret, or with warning labels. These stories go somewhere else. They’re about insight, humor, humanity, transformation, and sometimes just what it’s like to have a wild and unforgettable night.
These aren’t “drug stories,” exactly (though drugs do show up). They’re stories about the substance that remains after the ‘substances’ leave the body.
The Storytellers
Four exceptional storytellers take the stage on January 23, each bringing a story that surprised us—not because it was shocking, but because it was honest.
