We have Nutshell merch! If you buy a shirt, please send us a pic of you in it.
If you’re new to the Nutshell newsletter and/or haven’t made it to a show yet—Hey! Hello! Howdy! Secondly, you'd better get yer buns to September’s show because this month’s a plethora of excitement and fine storytelling (see below for the lineup).
This month is a great time to come check out In a Nutshell LIVE Storytelling, as our theme is UNREAL REALITY, and we’re honored to have Joe Hunter, runner-up in Season 48 of Survivor (and soon to be seen again in Survivor 50!), come tell us a story.
Survivor fans already know the gripping story that unfolded around Joe during his season, including an airtight alliance with the first openly Autistic person on the show, Eva, who shared Joe’s insistence that ‘loyalty’ could win the game. Watching their bond form was a sight to see, and at one point, when Joe helped Eva manage a fraught moment in the game, even Probst was moved to tears.
Joe lives here in Sacramento, and he’s a Captain in the Sacramento Fire Department. He also lost his sister to domestic violence, which is what prompted him to apply to Survivor. She had been a big Survivor fan, and he wanted to honor her memory, and also let go of some deeply-held grief and guilt over being unable to save her.
Joe’s probably going to talk about his sister at our show, and he might throw in some Survivor details here and there, too. We’re beyond thrilled to have him come tell his story with us, and YOU KNOW he picked the warmest, friendliest, most welcoming and all around FABULOUS audience to share it with! (Poke: I’m talking about YOU!!!!)
Who else is performing, you ask? Great question!
MORE NEWS:
Nutshell Keith’s latest special, What I Was Arrested For, has blown past 250k views on YouTube! Let’s help him get to 300K by watching it 10 times a day for 90 days! Just kidding, you can watch it once. And share it. And comment on it. And DM him. And send him bail money? Nah, that’s another joke (probably).
Have you been listening to Nutshell Aaron talk about writing his novel? He’s already at 58k words, so, in the world of sci-fi and speculative fiction, he only has 300k words to go! Just kidding! We’re pretty sure he’s not THAT prolific (psst . . . how long was his last book? Anyone? Anyone?) We bet it would help him loads if you all went over to his Substack and cheered him on. Writing a book can be lonely. Fortunately, he has Amy Bee to pester him nonstop day and night. (She asks why? a lot, dontcha know, like a toddler wearing a 49-year-old’s skin. Ewwwwww.)
Nutshell Amy Bee is performing at Heroes & Villains Open Mic StorySlam, a virtual story show put on by our friends at Six Feet Apart Productions. Come be part of the audience and cheer her on! (Sept 17, 5pm, $12-50) She’s also a featured storyteller at Pretty Good Stories, an awesome storytelling show in Berkeley. She’d love to see you out there representing Sacramento. Speaking of Sac, comedian and storyteller Becky Lynn will also be there that night!(Sept 24, 7:30pm, $15)
We’re three scrappy friends who built In a Nutshell Storytelling from nothing and made it fly. However, the truth is that we were lucky to find a great community of people who love storytelling and live entertainment. That’s YOU! All of you made this happen! Thank you for making this a hit from the first show! We're eager to keep this
trainball rolling as far as we can.
Nutshell mascot Maxi is pretty psyched about playing ball and hearing stories about playing ball. And playing ball while hearing stories about playing ball. We know you love In a Nutshell Storytelling, and you know your friends will love it too. You can always be the one who introduced them to this amazing show. Sounds good, right? You have our permission—our blessing even—to share the discount code: STORYFRIEND with your story friends. This code saves them 20% on tickets and helps get them out to the show. That's 20% off each ticket they buy, with no limit. Together, we can grow this and keep it going. Let's make Sacramento THE story town!
