In a Nutshell LIVE Storytelling November: Planes, Trains and Automobiles! (AKA Holidays!)
On the menu: Interstate vehicular meditation, a Thanksgiving dinner for the birds, and the glorious mess of friendship onstage, holiday-style.

No time to read the whole newsletter? Here’s what’s happening at In a Nutshell in a nutshell (oh, that’s cuuuuute!):
Top off your Black Friday (or skip it altogether!) by hearing true, personal tales told by four fantastic storytellers! Get your tickets now and come hang out with us on November 28 for our PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOILES show at the cozy Sofia Theatre!
BONUS: 💛 JP Frary + Beau Ryder Davis💛 are performing together on Stage! For our Planes, Trains & Automobiles show, these two are doing something completely different: a storytelling conversation. JP’s the long-married realist who swears he’s just “cheering Beau up,” and Beau’s the romantic trying to believe in love again. There’s banter, surprise, and the glorious mess of friendship onstage; basically, My Dinner with André meets Pulp Fiction, with a side of eggnog.
The next Prompt: a podcast for people who love stories drops on Wednesday, Nov 19th! Our guest will be the wily Southern charmer Beau Ryder Davis!
IT’S OUR LAST SHOW OF THE YEAR: That’s right! We’re going dark for December (so no Nutshell and no WILDCARD!), but don’t worry, we’ve got a full YEAR OF ALL FRIDAYS for 2026. Great storytellers, fun prompts and lots of surprises along the way. Stay tuned. We can’t wait to see you in the new year! Our next show will be on January 23: DRUGS are NICE.
WILDCARD: The next Wildcard is Nov 20, and then we’re off for December. We’ll be back Jan 15. The lawman Keith Staten is our featured guest for November. Anyone who tells a story will get a present from Santa Amy!
We have Nutshell merch! If you buy a shirt or a mug, please send us a pic of you in it. Or, you know, near it.
THANK YOU, SACRAMENTO and beyond, for making 2025 the best year it could be, filled with community, friends, and LIVE storytelling!
It’s been a WONDERFUL year, story fans! We’re just three friends who love stories, and it’s been our pleasure to get to share our favorite stories and storytellers with you.
In 2025, we
started a top-notch live storytelling show at one of Sacramento’s top-notch theatres, The Sofia,
created a midtown open-mic story swap,
and launched a podcast so that not only could non-Sacramentans (Sacramentoans??!?) hear all the great stories, but EVERYONE could peek in on the craft and art of oral storytelling and find out about the stories BEHIND the stories told onstage.
YOU’VE supported us through all of it, Sacramento and beyond, and we can’t thank you enough for being here with us, being the kind of humans who show up to live shows, bring your friends and family with you, and help support not only Sacramento artists and creatives, but the very art and craft of telling true tales onstage!
We were lucky to find a great community of people who love storytelling and live entertainment. That’s YOU! All of you made this happen! Thank you for making this a hit from the first show! We’re eager to keep this train ball rolling as far as we can.

We can’t wait to see you (and every single person you know!) on BLACK FRIDAY, November 28, at the gorgeous Sofia Theatre. And don’t worry, we’ll keep in touch in December to let you know more about what’s to come in 2026 (and AWWWWWW, YEAH, it’s gonna be good!).
Until then, keep telling your stories to each other, and we’ll see you soon.
Thank you,
We know you love supporting talented storytellers AND their heck-yeah-totally-awesome stories, so go ahead and become an official Patron of Stories by being a paid subscriber:

This sounds like such a warm way to wrap up the year! Live storytellig has a way of bringing people together that digital just can't replicate. The JP and Beau storytelling conversation sounds particuarly interesting, blending frindship dynamics with the art form itself. Hope the Black Friday show is a hit and you all come back strong in 2026!
Just heard about y’all via Danny Sacramento, tapigami master. Coincidentally, Papa Pat has told “offstage” several times at The Sofia. };-
