In a Nutshell LIVE Storytelling April: DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD
A story that cuts both ways, an action with both favorable and unfavorable consequences, or a decision that can help or harm.

Hello to our favorite Nutshell Friends! How’s this gorgeous April treating you so far?
April may come in like a lion and out like a lamb, but we betcha both of ‘em are suffering from some mega allergies!
We can go on and on about how great our March show was and how happy we were to see you all out there, live and in person. And how about our very own Amy Bee telling her story Cookie Season? Not bad for someone with stage fright and social anxiety, eh? Eh? In fact, why don’t we tell Amy what we thought about her story and her second time on stage? Send her your best thoughts and compliments in an Email or join the community chat, where all Nutshells are welcome to discuss stories (and Amy Bee’s story, hee hee) with each other and Keith, Amy, and Aaron! Anyway, yes, yes, we could go on about our last show, but we’ve got some exciting news to fill you in on, and we can’t keep it to ourselves any longer, so let’s jump straight to that.
But first, if you’re new to the Nutshell newsletter and/or haven’t made it to a show yet—Hey! Hello! Howdy! Secondly, you'd better get yer buns to April’s show because we’ve got some excellent tellers to share with you (see below for the lineup).
And don’t worry—if you don’t live here, we still love you and want you to be part of our community. And, our news applies to you, too, because we’re busy looking for ways to bring our featured storytellers to humans outside of Sacramento (although, LIVE IS BEST, HUMANS, and you know it. So, yes, hang out with us a bit here and then get yer buns out there in the world and see what’s going on in your neighborhood.)
In a Nutshell Storytelling has a new monthly storytelling show: WILDCARD!
We’re still working out the kinks, but it looks like Sacramento has a new place to listen to MOSTLY TRUE personal stories because we’re taking our show to Old Soul The Alley in Midtown, and we’re loosening things up, baby! WILDCARD! is just that: a little feral, a little unpredictable, and very, very fun. If you love listening to stories, this show is right up your alley (Oops! Sor-ry!) because we’re inviting a mixture of seasoned and rookie storytellers to come up and share the stage for an evening, and—WILDCARD!—three random audience members will be selected open-mic style (aka anyone who has opted in) to come up and regale the crowd with their tale. No themes, no prompts, no experience necessary! Who knows what these featured tellers and three randos will tell us! We do know it’s gonna be one helluva entertaining night, and you want to be entertained, don’t you, humans?! STORYTELLERS: Have you been looking for a place to work on a longer story or polish a tale that is not quite ready for the mainstage? SO HAVE WE! Where do we go if we’ve graduated open mics and silly competitions and are ready to try telling a story longer than five minutes? Well, now you have a spot. If you’re interested in performing your story for WILDCARD! as a featured teller, send us your pitch. Stay tuned for more details. You can subscribe to our newsletter to stay in the loop
or follow us on all the standard platforms (not X).
COMING SOON: A new podcast for free and paid subscribers!
PROMPT: A PODCAST
Excuse us as we dust our hands off onto our dungarees, Nutshells, because, as you can see from above, making anything creative is a messy endeavor, and our new podcast PROMPT: is no different. But we’ve got our concept down, as evidenced by this, um . . . artistic? . . . rendering of the structure we’re going for:
So, we’re pretty sure you don’t need to know anything more than that, right? Okay, cool! Well, keep your eyes open. We’re gonna be talking to some AMAZING storytellers, and clearly, we have the most enticing format ever. The podcast will have elements available to both free and paid subscribers so why not subscribe now? Here ya go if ya wanna:
More info to come soon!
AND NOW, let’s get back to our April newsletter and the fabulous storytellers we have for you.
Our April show is all about the dastardly “DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD,” and the tellers will take that prompt in any direction they like, so expect some stories where the poison is the medicine (and vice-versa!) as well as tales where those that get-got will also got-get, and nothing comes without a cost . . . or is it that the darkest moments come before the light?
The storytellers may divert and delight us with the unexpected cut of unintended consequences or pull us into a world where the risks and drawbacks of every move we make could be the beginning of something beautiful or the worst mistake we’ve ever made . . . whatever they choose, we're ready for the ride and trust that by the end of the night, all their shared emotions, thoughts, lessons, and experiences will leave us feeling more connected, and yes, a little more human.
We're so looking forward to seeing you on April 30!
Take Care,
Did you love watching the tellers tell their stories? Want to learn how to tell yours?

Please join the Sacramento Storytellers Guild for their monthly Story Swap! Every 3rd Saturday, they have six storytellers, two poets, and a loose theme. April 19’s theme is: April is not for fools! and co-creator Amy Bee is one of the tellers! Even better, board member Vicki provides an excellent spread of delicious food during the 20-minute break. The Storytellers Guild welcomes all storytellers and lovers of stories! Visit the website for more info.
